Steins;Gate Review

Date: May 5, 2026

Out of all the other anime I've watched over the years, Stein;Gate stood out from its unique and cohesive storybuilding. It's one of those science fiction that I'll remember forever. I'm not a professional at reviewing shows, but I have many compliments on this amazing show.

To sum up what it is, Steins;gate is a science fiction series revolving time travel and the mysteries behind it. The main character Okabe Rintaro and his friends discover the secrets of time travelling, and of course encountering troubles along the way. Eventually, his goal is to create a timeline where everyone is alive and well. The story is showcased in a suspenseful way quite unique from other series at the time. It's dark and errie, like a sort of liminal space when no one is near, but the entirety of the show makes the audience feel engaged, especially about the relationships around the main (and side) characters.

A big compliment for this show is for its plot. The beginning is designed to confuse the viewers, and then followed by a tragic event, which begins to raise conspiracies for the story afterwards. Almost every episode felt intense due to the effects of alternating timelines. The story also emphasizes the butterfly effect, where a tiny change can cause a huge impact, and it makes the plot really unpredictable but interesting.

Another good aspect of the show is its characters and their unique traits. Okabe is a really funny guy, and on the other hand, he's determined to solve problems based on his inventions. Okabe is the main main character of this show, and so there's a lot to learn from his personality and thoughts, including his mental struggles. The other characters like his assistant Kurisu Makise play an important role to support Okabe's journey. In the mean time, he tries to understand their struggles as well. He would undergo a significant amount of character development.

On the visual side of the table, I'd say White Fox Studio did put lots of creativity and effort into the artstyle. The overall texture feels like vintage but futuristic at the same time. Shadows are heavier and reflections are stronger. The contrast is abnormously high, allowing important things to get emphasized visually.

In the end, I'd like to thank the studio for producing this masterpiece. If I were to lose my memory, I'd choose to watch it all over again. Truly a 10/10 masterpiece.
